10 Essentials for the Perfect Weekend Getaway
Leaving work early on Friday to head out for the weekend is always a good sign of an adventurous and exciting weekend ahead. But if you want to make the most out of your trip, you need to know how to pack for the weekend. The last thing you want is to spend your weekend in a shopping mall. Here are 10 essentials for the perfect weekend getaway.
Weekend bags are all about limitations; that's the beauty of them. You don't need to bring a 20kg suitcase with you because you won't need it. Get yourself a weekend bag that's able to be used as a carry-on if you're flying or can easily be thrown in the backseat of your car.
Whether it's summer or the middle of winter, no matter where you are, bring a swimsuit. Even if you're not planning on swimming, you never know what could pop up. Always bring your swimsuit; one weekend, you'll end up wearing it.
A good book
A weekend getaway should always be accompanied by a good book. If you're flying, a good book will help you pass the time. If you're lounging by the pool, a good book will let you unwind and relax. Bring with you a book you've been wanting to read and read it.
Sure, it could rain, but it could also be extremely bright and sunny. In this case, bring some shade along with you. Sunglasses can jazz up your look and will keep your eyes safe during the weekend.
It could be the middle of summer, and a random thunderstorm could come in the middle of the weekend. What are you going to do? Always assume the chance of rainy weather to come through. Bring a waterproof jacket or raincoat with you wherever you go - don't forget an umbrella.
You don't need to bring your beard trimmer with you, what you should focus on bringing are the basics. Bring travel size bottles for shampoo and conditioner, your toothbrush, toothpaste and call it a day. If you need anything else, buy it there. Keep your toiletries to a minimum for your weekend getaway.
You can't bring all your shoes with you. So, to minimize this, bring along with you one pair of shoes, other than the ones you're wearing. It's a short trip, you're not going to need a different pair for each day. Look at where you're going, and choose your shoes based on your environment and weather.
Deck of cards
If you decided to head out to a classic Bed & Breakfast, chances are you're limited to the internet and television. The quality time you spend with your partner is important. So, bring along a deck of cards. Crack open a bottle of wine, and play a game of cards or poker...maybe even strip poker.
It's a weekend trip, so you only need to pack for the weekend. You don't need eight outfits. If you're going for a weekend (let's say three or four days) this is what you need to bring with you:
- 2 pair of pants
- 3 tops
- 1 sweater (if needed)
- 1 pair of PJs
- 3-4 pairs of underwear
- 3-4 pair of socks (if needed)
- 1 jacket (if needed)
We could have said to bring your pager or change for a payphone, but let's get with the times. Wherever you go, make sure you bring your smartphone with you. It's more than just a phone; it's a map, compass, and tourist guide all packed in one. No one ever became upset because they had their smartphone with them while traveling.
You now have everything you need for the perfect weekend getaway. So, what are you waiting for? It's time you hit the road.
